This Friday, September 15, join us at the Merchant's House Museum for the last Open Mic Nite of the season. In the 19th century, literary salons gathered great thinkers, artists, and writers under one roof for a night of socialization and “improving conversation.” In that same spirit, the Merchant’s House celebrates the works of today’s new writers, performance artists, and musicians. Our goal is to provide a supportive, welcoming, and inclusive environment for all forms of performing arts: music, readings, comedy, drama, spoken word, etc. Come to share your work or simply enjoy the garden all abloom. Wine & light refreshments will be served.

If you’d like to perform, please bring no more than 8 minutes of material; sign-up available upon entry. Doors open at 6:30, with performances usually beginning at 7.

Admission $10, Students & Seniors $5, FREE for Members.

Ghost Tours, Seances, and Funeral Reenactments at the Merchant's House Museum

The Merchant's House, where I am a volunteer, continues its annual tradition of exhibiting nineteenth-century mourning customs, as well as celebrating the ghosts that make it "Manhattan's most haunted house," according to the New York Times.

In addition to the mourning exhibition that runs through the end of October, there will be ghost tours, a lecture on paranormal investigation, a seance, and a funeral reenactment. During this last event, I will be reprising my role as Gertrude Tredwell, the youngest Tredwell daughter.

For more information and for tickets, please visit the Merchant's House website. Also, check out Scott Stiffler's "At Merchant’s House, the dead are still touring" featured in the Villager this week!
